Not every writing day is productive.
Some days it’s one sentence. One word. One sigh.
But it counts because you showed up. Keep showing up.

Eye Deceit?
Was that a flicker? Did my eye catch a glisk,
Thoughts peregrinate, am I at risk?
Nesh as I shiver, nerves prickle my skin,
Gastrolith thoughts grind, as the fear sets in.

Winter's First Bite
Morriwin chews the air, blunted teeth bare,
Niveous hills horde gifts they can't share.
Feadan tries singing, persistent, alone
As grimmelings shaves the day to its bone.

#winter
Morriwin - (Cornish dialect): The first light frost of the season, marking the turn of autumn into winter. Feadan - (Scottish Gaelic): A small stream or the whistle of wind through a narrow glen, evoking the quiet sounds of a winter landscape. Niveous - (Latin-derived English): Snowy or resembling snow, often used to describe a pale, wintry landscape. Grimmelings - (East Anglian dialect): The twilight of a winter evening, when light fades and shadows deepen.

One Stray Spark
Feuillemort feathers the fickle forest floor,
Sparked by a glisk on a brief winter tour.
Surrounded by smaze, the trees cough and choke
Snirtles are stifled, a forest fire is no joke.

Feuillemort (French) - Literally "dead leaf" in French, it describes the color of withering leaves—muted browns, yellows, and greens blending together in decay. It's often used poetically to convey autumnal tones or fading vitality. Glisk (Scots) - A fleeting glimpse or flash of light, often associated with moments of brief clarity or insight. It carries a sense of something ephemeral, disappearing as quickly as it appeared. Snirtle (Yorkshire dialect) - To stifle a laugh or snigger quietly, often when trying not to be heard or noticed. It has a playful, mischievous undertone. Smaze (English) - A combination of smoke and haze, used to describe a dense, smoggy atmosphere where visibility is impaired. It carries a sense of suffocation or unclear perception, both literal and figurative.

The Weight of the Wait
Smirr drapes the world, soaking me to the bone,
My brain knust stained as I wait, alone.
Tsundoku thrums, rising like smoke,
A new book delayed, Iktsuarpok's cruel joke.

Smirr - (Scots): A fine, misty rain, often barely perceptible but enough to dampen everything. Iktsuarpok - (Inuit): The feeling of anticipation that makes you keep checking to see if someone is coming, (pronounced eek-soo-ahr-pok) Knust - (Yorkshire dialect): A bruise or discolored spot on fruit, especially apples. Tsundoku - (Japanese): The act of acquiring books and letting them pile up, unread.

Winter Feast
As mumpers meander, voice sore with song
Père Fouettard's whip lash lingers long.

Loosen the yule-hole, let the feasting begin.

Hands guddle for trinkets, festive drinks flow.
We yaffle our way through the feast till we're done,
Sobremesa settles when tall tales are spun.

Raw Release
I cradle a fragment of yesterday,
sealed tight in shatterproof glass—
a souvenir of who I was,
before the hurt of today
sucked the breath from my lungs
and left me adrift,
yearning for tomorrow's
raw release.

My head was caught
in a wave of nostalgia
vellichor pulling me
along the way
All those books I’d read
as a child came
back to haunt me.
Never in a rush to leave
my bedroom
clinomania clamped
in my brain
The outside world
uninviting
all my dysania
won't go away
