It is so meaningful to me that we could go so short of a distance to see a bird that was almost driven to extinction (the Trumpeter Swan) with its mate, the Mute Swan, and that children are playing in this park where we have clean water and air.

A Red-winged Blackbird singing his heart out along Central Park's Harlem Meer this morning. If you look closely (and use a little imagination) you can see his breath in the cool air! 🎶🎶🎶 #Blackbirds #CentralPark #birdcpp

Astoria the Wild Turkey framed by the soft glow of the SeaGlass Carousel.
With the snow melting away, she returned to foraging in the thawing soil—no doubt uncovering delicious treasures. 🦃💕✨

The most glorious wing flap in The Battery. 🦃✨
Astoria the Wild Turkey went full wingspan and let the crowd gasp appropriately. Casual stroll? No — royal appearance. 👑💕

During snowfall and in a light rain are becoming my favorite time to photograph birds…especially if you know where to look 🩵

It was a frigid, cold day, so I was overjoyed that the Downy Woodpecker made an appearance. I was careful not to spook the woodpecker and kept my distance as they need to reserve their energy in this cold weather.

The same Northern Cardinal comes by three times and a bit of an altercation between the Titmice at the Loch today 🧡

I was looking for my Downy Woodpecker friend, but instead encountered two Red-bellied Woodpeckers at Riverside Park today!
This is a male…such a beautiful, busy bird ❤️

I thought my friend the Downy Woodpecker would be at Riverside Park today. Imagine my surprise when I saw the Red-bellied Woodpecker 🧡

So cool to see the Titmice and Cardinals at the Loch today in this winter cold. Some are “snatch and grab” some are decidedly “picky eaters.”

I love watching the Downy go up and down trees…they are so busy 🧡

I was worried that the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker wouldn’t find his way to the suet cage. But that worry was unneeded!

What I like to call the “messy woodpecker” the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker seems to have cleaned up for his photo debut in Riverside Park today 🧡

I ventured out to Central Park early this morning during the Blizzard of '26. It was beautiful and eerily quiet, and I ran into a couple of avian buddies, including this Northern Cardinal, all puffed up to keep warm! ❄️❄️❄️ #Cardinal #CentralPark #birdcpp
It’s interesting how the Downy Woodpecker sometimes waits his turn, and sometimes he is aggressive and protective towards his food source. On the gentler side today at Riverside Park!
#birdcpp #birding #birdwatching #RiversidePark
I believe this is the same Downy Woodpecker I filmed on the 20th. Note how they use their tails as a ballast…a kind of a third leg.
The markings on the Blue Jay are gorgeous and I’m always happy to see the Northern Cardinal.

Three Cackling Geese, the first ever reported in Central Park, have been reported the past three days and I was finally able to see one of them today. Also, a shot of one of the continuing female Common Mergansers at the Reservoir. #birdcpp #BirdsOfTwitter #CentralPark #birds #birdsseenin2026
Glad I stuck around to see the Downy Woodpecker devouring some suet, a high-energy food source providing fuel for their warmth and energy needs in this cold!
