SpecFive Strike is a Raspberry Pi-powered handheld with a QWERTY keyboard and LoRa mesh networking The SpecFive Strike is a handheld computer with a 4.3 inch touchscreen display, a QWERTY keyboard for thumb typing, and a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 for brains. What makes it unusual is that while it supports WiFi and Bluetooth and is designed for on-the-go usage, there's no support for connecting to 4G or 5G networks. Instead it has a SX1262 915 MHz LoRa module that lets you use the device with decentralized mesh networks.

For the last few years Radxa has been selling a line of computer-on-a-module systems that are pin-to-pin compatible with the Raspberry Pi CM4 and CM5. The Radxa CM3 launched in 2021 as a model with a Rockchip RK3566 processor and Radxa introduced a CM5 with a higher-performance RK3588 the following year. Notably absent at the time? A Radxa CM4 that would split the difference in terms of price and performance. But now Radxa is filling in that gap. The **Radxa CM4** is a new board that follows the same form factor as earlier models, but it features a Rockchip RK3576 processor. Radxa hasn’t revealed how much it will cost or when it will be available for purchase, but the company has shared detailed specs and documentation ahead of launch. All three modules feature built-in processors, memory, and I/O features including Ethernet, USB, and PCIe interfaces. But since there are no full-sized ports you’ll need to connect each module with a carrier board like the Radxa CM4 IO board in order to plug anything in (including a power source). The new Radxa CM4 looks like it’s well positioned to round out the product lineup by featuring a higher-performance processor, a faster neural processor, support for up to twice as much memory, and support for higher-resolution displays than you’d get from the CM3. But it’s not quite as fast as the CM5, which means it should be cheaper. Given that the CM3 sells for $20 and up while the CM5 starts at $75, it seems safe to say that the new model will fall somewhere in the middle. | **Radxa CM3**| **Radxa CM4**| **Radxa CM5** ---|---|---|--- **Processor**| **RK3566** 4 x ARM Cortex-A55 @ 1.8 GHz Mali-G52 2EE GPU 1 TOPS NPU| **RK3576** 4 x ARM Cortex-A72 @ 2.2 GHz 4 x ARM Cortex-A53 @ 1.8 GHz Mali-G52 MC3 GPU TOPS NPU| **RK3588** 4 x ARM Cortex-A76 @ 2.4 GHz 4 x ARM Cortex-A55 @ 1.8 GHz Mali-G610 MP4 GPU 6 TOPS NPU **Memory**| Up to 8GB LPDDR4| Up to 16GB LPDDR4x| Up to 32GB LPDDR4x **Storage**| eMMC (optional)| Up to 256GB eMMC SPI Flash (optional)| Up to 128GB eMMC **PCIe**| 1 x PCIe 2.1 x1 (shared with SATA)| 2 x PCIe Gen 2 x1| 2 x PCIE 2.0 x1 (one shared with SATA, one shared with USB 3 and SATA) **SATA**| 1 x SATA with USB 3.0 Host 1 x SATA shared with PCIe 2.1| 2 x SATA 3.1| 2 x SATA (one shared with USB3/PCIe, one shared with PCIe) **Connectivity**| 1 x Gigabit Ethernet PHY WiFi 5 & BT 5.0 (optional)| 1 x Gigabit Ethernet PHY WiFi 6 & BT 5.4| 1 a Gigabit Ethernet PHY **USB**| 1 x USB 3.0 Host (shared with SATA) 2 x USB 2.0 Host 1 x USB 2.0 OTG| 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 OTG/Host 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2| 1 x USB 3.0 OTG 1 x USB 3.0 Host 2 x USB 2.0 Host **Video output**| 1 x HDMI (2K@60Hz) 1 x eDP 4-lane interface 2 x MIPI-DSI 1 x LVDS 4-lane| 1 x HDMI (4K@120Hz) 1 x 4-lane eDP interface (4K@60Hz) 1 x DisplayPort (4K@120Hz) 1 x 4-lane MIPI-DSI Support for up to 2 x displays| 1 x HDMI (8K@60Hz) 1 x eDP (4K@60Hz) 1 x DisplayPort (8K@30Hz) 1 x 4-lane MIPI_DSI **Video input**| 1 x 4-lane MIPI-CSI or 2 x 2-lane MIPI-CSI **Connectors**| 3 x 100-pin **Dimensions**| 55 x 40mm **Starting price**| $20| ?| $75 Radxa also offers a CM5 Lite module that’s similar to the CM5 in most respects, but it has a Rokchip RK3582 processor instead of RK3588. Lilbits: Google to block sideloading of apps from unverified developers One of the things that has long set Android apart from iOS is that Android makes it fairly easy to install apps from sources other than Google's official app store, providing users and developers with the opportunity to install apps that might not otherwise be available.  Apple, meanwhile, has offered more of a walled-garden approach that it says leads to better security and an improved user experience...
