De cartoon toont drie mannen in foute kersttruien. Links staat een man die enthousiast zegt dat hij klaar is voor een “vrijgezellen kerst party”. Op zijn groene trui staat de tekst “kerstboodschap”, afgebeeld met een drol. Die woordspeling vormt de kern van de cartoon. Boodschap betekent normaal een (kerst)wens of morele boodschap, maar in spreektaal ook: naar het toilet gaan. De kerstboodschap wordt hier letterlijk een “grote boodschap”, wat de trui bewust plat en ongemakkelijk maakt. De twee mannen rechts reageren spottend. Eén zegt dat hij een “hele eenzame kerst” tegemoet gaat, de ander zingt lachend “Single all the way!”, een cynische variant op Jingle Bells. Hun gedrag contrasteert met de vermeende kerstgezelligheid die hun truien uitstralen. De titel “Foute kersttrui…” verwijst zo niet alleen naar lelijke kleding, maar ook naar een foute houding. De cartoon laat zien hoe kersthumor kan doorschieten in flauwe spot en hoe iemand die afwijkt van het ideale kerstplaatje (single zijn) wordt geridiculiseerd, terwijl de echte kerstboodschap – verbondenheid – ontbreekt.
