Blue underpainting (imprimatura) for an impressionist/expressionist oil painting of some birch trees and foot steps, scanned in high resolution~ Posting this high resolution scan of the blue underpainting (original digital scan is 600dpi). Once oil paint is completely dry, it can be scanned on a flatbed scanner which is something I never tried before with an oil painting! The other picture posted before was a photograph and not as detailed. This version is closer to how the painting actually looks in person and has much more detail. I also wanted a high resolution scan of this version of the painting to keep forever since it will essentially disappear when I apply the first layers of oil paint. This is oil paint on wood panel. This is a Work in Progress~

Purple winter birch tree oil painting, with the second layer of paint~ Added thick paint to give texture to the snow. Mostly just smoothed out edges and applied another layer of light yellow paint (Cadmium Yellow with Titanium White). I used palette knives for some of the texture on the snow. This is the first time I've painted with palette knives since 2018 in Denver, Colorado. This is oil paint on canvas (stretched over a wooden frame).

Chugkh is a raptor who lives in the water and must swim through creeks and rivers to keep up with his companions, Sohlo and Jeann the snow raptor. After a traumatic event years ago, he was afflicted with a curse that causes him to start involuntarily self-immolating as soon as he's dry. To cope, he's adapted into a sea creature. Some of his favorite catches include sockeye salmon and spruce tips. He also loves berries and honey. Chugkh once went out onto the mudflats and got stuck when the tide started to come in. He almost got himself and others drowned because they had to go underwater to pull him free from the mud. Naturally, he's developed a bit of a phobia about mudflats and he avoids going near one as much as he can. Chugkh is a character from Potential. Chugkh and Potential belong to Jay Juno.

Red pear in soft pastel... This mini artwork was created with Caran d'Ache pastel pencils, which are some of the softest and most saturated pastel pencils I've ever tried. The paper is Pastelmat by Clairefontaine, and it's one of the best papers I've tried for soft pastels.

Coffee in watercolor and ink... This is titled "Love for Coffee". This is watercolor paint and ink on paper, with a flair of art nouveau. Coffee is big in Alaska. There are so many coffee stands and huts here. I like getting a lungo myself~ Since this illustration was made with student grade watercolor paint on cellulose paper, I'd like to try making a new one with the artist grade watercolors on cotton paper (now that I've gotten better at painting). That, and I want to try a different design with maybe blue or purple.

Red apple in soft pastel, over an underpainting of watercolor... This is on Pastelmat paper, which can handle both wet and dry mediums like watercolor and soft pastels. I chopped it down into baseball card sized pieces and smaller sizes for miniature artwork. Mini art is less stressful, and good for trying out art techniques without wasting supplies. I like doing an underpainting of blue watercolor paint then finishing the drawing off in soft pastels or color pencil. The blue seems to glow through the crystals of the soft pastel.
