You might assume these are ant nests - except, you'd see ants. These are frigid miner bee nests. You can walk around, they don't sting, just be mindful when you're in the woods.

Pink turtlehead can reach 6 feet in height. Works best in full sun with medium-wet soil to standing water. Can tolerate some shade in morning or late afternoon. Pair with marsh milkweed, obedient plant and other moist soil tolerant species. This photo was taken before our beds filled in. This bed also has foxglove penstemon and showy blackeyed susans.
