Especially with all of the pre-emptive complicity we're seeing / lack of entry barriers introduced by retributive funding theft... We need to keep a rigorous avenue accessible for new ideas to flourish.

“Why is it ALWAYS The Historians?” Newly updated blog post about bearded white male historians’ “Karen-is-a-grifter” discourse and what it says about them and their field. theprofessorisin.com/2021/10/04/w... #AcademicSky @academicsky #postac
I feel similarly, but my field was lit. In my #postac life, I've been thinking a lot about Deleuze and post-institutionality...
I'm sorry and congratulations!
I don't know if you followed #postac twitter at all - or if you feel like reading narratives from people in similar situation at this point - but Kelly Baker wrote a good book about her experience, just for one: www.kellyjbaker.com/writing/grac...

Only some of you will remember when we used to have discourse about #AltAc vs. #PostAc vs. #OutAc (and #ParaAc #ExtraAc #ExitAc)! 🤣
Way back when I used to use #WithAPhD! Did regular Twitter chats with these for three years.
Time flies!

Me: as I'm unemployed, perhaps I should go #PostAc and choose a new career. Any suggestions?

Mafia consigliere?
Selling cocaine to business executives?
Prostitution?
Apparently academia has prepared me exclusively for a career in the underworld.
Still looking for some #altac #postac, postdoc, faculty, or other PhD-holding folks to help as mini-mentors to groups. Simply keep an eye on your email and reach out if someone vanishes. Comment on the original post below to help out!
If you're looking into #postac careers, a personal website doesn't hurt but isn't necessary. LinkedIn, however, is worth the investment in time to learn how to use and set-up. Many employers will look for you on there, and it's a way to begin to establish your career story.
If I asked you what your professional elevator pitch was (for a #postac job), could you answer in 2-3 sentences? Without talking about your degree or area of specialization?
I went through and personally know the challenges of figuring out what happens post-PhD if an academic career isn't for you. It's hard, for sure... but for today, just know that you can pull through & you can find a community of #altac #postac people here on twitter to help.
You've been on twitter and it's helped with your academic path--awesome! Now for #postac jobs consider things from an employers' view. If they google you, what will they find? Make sure your platforms give a consistent story, get on LinkedIn, and take control of your narrative.
If you're thinking about #postac careers, start building your network early. There's no harm in expanding the circle of people you're in contact with during your PhD. You never know where relationships and connections may take you.
Wondering about #postac career options and what's out there? So much! But we are more ignorant than not of all the possibilities and opportunities. Find out what others from your program have done, talk to them. Learn about industries and companies that you stumble across.
It's never too early to track your accomplishments & skills, whether you're thinking of an academic or #postac career. The exercises we suggest community members go through to identify their skills & core competencies are ones you can do anytime. Get to know your strengths!
You've got a broad skill set to leverage through earning a PhD, running a lab, teaching university courses, participating in institutional committees, organizing conferences, applying for grants. Weave these skills into a compelling career story as you think about #postac jobs.
Knowing what's out there (career-wise) can be a HUGE help in any career transition. There are communities on twitter (follow #postac #altac #withaphd), lots of career transition stories on our blog, and @BeyondProf we recommend using platforms like LinkedIn to connect with alumni

If you're in a #postac #altac career, what misconceptions did you/people have about your current job? Let's share and help debunk some of those myths!
There are many challenges in a post-PhD job search. One challenge is that we are often unaware of the wide variety of jobs available to people with our skillset. Some good places to start are: our blog for inspiration, the #BPCommunity, the #postac #altac on twitter, and alumni.
Let's share some stories about how your #postac #altac work has impact beyond academia--comment below w/ what you do & how you're making a difference! (So we can continue to de-bunk the myth that your work/talents won't have the same impact beyond academia!) #AcademicChatter
