Good lord, the level of restraint on the part of the writer(s) who composed this sidebar and named the corresponding ability! I mean, the implication is still obvious, but respect for the classiest description of a fart rocket I’ve ever seen.

Art and stat block for a Starfinder creature called an Atlapak. It’s a big, colorful crustacean with an oversized claw that can attack at range with a “sonic snap” or use an extra action for a stronger, more accurate “Cavitation Blast”. And it can fly. (Though it needs to be in dense atmosphere or underwater for maximum effectiveness). So yeah, big, potentially airborne Mantis Shrimp.

A sidebar from the Paradox 17 page, with a pair of SCP-style “researcher logs”: PROPOSAL: CONSENSUS REALITY “If we convince Paradox 17 that something false is true, will it become true? If, as we suspect, Paradox 17 is a form of wishcraft magic run amok or an unstable fragment of a progenitor Eldest, then in either case the result should”—[Transmission terminated at origin.] URGENT MEMO TO ALL RESEARCHERS: Until further notice, Paradox 17 is never to be defined in objective terms under any circumstances. Describe it only in indirect observations. No one is to hypothesize about Paradox 17’s nature or origins, in text or verbally.

Another fragment of “researcher notes” on the mystery creature: RECORDED CLOSE CONTACTS * An affected deep-cover spy left a note: “Dreaming?” [crossed out] Too long. Simulation? Something has to maintain it. Anything this complex requires heuristics and predictable patterns. Unexpected responses might throw it off… reveal another paradox.” * An affected Xenowarden called arresting agents “a sign my conscious life is plagued with anxieties about authority.” * An affected security guard, sole survivor of a starship that Paradox 17 boarded, killed a recon team. All their recorders caught was, “Has my whole life been a dream? If one of you would just surprise me, maybe I’d finally wake up.”
