What do cognitive decline, behavioural changes and frontotemporal dementia impact?
-The wellbeing and safety of people with MND, carers and family members, including children
-The work of healthcare professionals
-Ability to make an informed decision on care
-Eating, drinking and communication
-ability to cope with treatments eg gastrostomy or assisted ventilation
What can HSCPs do?
- Talk with the person with MND, their carers and family to identify and provide support in a timely manner
-Involve them in any decision, providing appropriate support to carers and family members to ensure their wellbeing
-discuss early and regularly advance care planning to ensure the person's wishes are respected and avoid crises
-work as a team to manage changes
-follow national guidelines to refer to specialist assessments
