A range of Turing patterns on different domains.

A range of Turing patterns on different domains.

So, why does it matter?
Explicitly, I've shown that we have to be careful when approximating geometries in applications. Curved edges can fundamentally alter what it means for a domain to be 1D, or 2D.

As teachers we know that math is inaccessible for students, but we don't know exactly why.

Our study aims to understand how student's math confidence impacts their learning performance.

In this approach, the defective virus competes with the normal virus for shared proteins, which suppresses viral replication.

Using mathematical modeling, they found that while this treatment is promising, a protective immune response drastically reduces its effectiveness.

Dear developmental biologists, Julia comes with a Zygote that auto-differentiates. 😀

using Zygote
f(x) = x^2 + 3x + sin(x)
f'(2.0) # returns 6.58385

Wet lab? Dry lab? I prefer the Symbolic lab.
Math-Bio isn't just HPC runs— derivations & proofs matter too. As always, Julia helps.

using Symbolics
@variables x y a b c d m n
f = [a/(1+y^n)-b*x, c/(1+x^m)-d*y]
J = Symbolics.jacobian(f,[x,y])

First up at #UKMathBio is Tiina Roose, who makes a great case that maths can be central to every stage of experimental data collection, particularly imaging! #MathBio shouldn't just be an endpoint where we take fully processed experiments and model them completely separately from everything else
