By doing self registration using 10 frames and talking about how many pupils we should have, how many aren’t here and how many are here, you have yourself an instant number talk every morning. #numbertalks
#numbertalks are my favorite opportunity to listen to kids’ mathematical thinking but these moments exist all day. We must honor our children’s voices. We must Listen.
It is! During #numbertalks for younger learners I don’t often record the symbols but when I do I try to match my writing with their words. If I showed a model and a student says “I know it’s 7 because I saw a group of 3 and a group of 4.” I could say or write, ‘7 is the same as 3 and 4’ or “7=3+4”
Yes, I love the analogy! Inviting everyone to the table to share a meal can be a wonderful experience. #NumberTalks are a great example of this in the math classroom.
