Using zfs rewrite -P lets you rewrite data logically, applying updated properties or allocation behavior without re-replicating unchanged blocks. That means less I/O, and faster operations when rebalancing or updating datasets.

I need RHEL+Podman for something. But I also really really like ZFS, that I use on my #FreeBSD systems ...

RHEL 9.7 on a ZFS root 😀

Note: This is ENTIRELY unsupported and shouldn't be done in a production environment 🤡 😆

To summarize: I have a mirrored #ZFS pool which crashes both FreeBSD kernel and #OpenZFS when trying to import (both disks and each separately).

The disks are old but fine, no IO errors (I have dd/raw images of both disks), last daily scrubs were fine.

Ideas anyone? @robn perhaps?

A key tip from Michael W. Lucas in our recent webinar: ZFS isn’t “just another filesystem.”

Tools like df don’t apply the same way—because ZFS is a full data-management platform.
Shift your mindset and the power of ZFS opens up fast.
