A female phlebotomine sand fly fully engorged with blood (bright red) is visible behind a fine nylon mesh. Another pair of sand flies are also visible in the corner mating. Phlebotomine sand flies are the recognised most common vectors of the neglected tropical disease leishmaniasis.
