Many times I've blushed
stuttered
shrunk into my shell
it's not easy being shy
facing my fears of
other people
speaking to a crowd
imposing myself
at a party on my own
having to integrate
with people unknown

When you found me— broken-hearted, broken-bodied, woefully unassertive— you scooped me up into your world: the blanket fort kingdom, the safest of all places. You told me, "Go and play."
