Dish launches first new broadband satellite in 16 years A rendering of EchoStar XXV, a direct broadcast satellite that will deliver television content across North America — Dish’s first new broadcast satellite in 16 years. Credit: Lanteris Space Systems ## Mission Highlight: EchoStar XXV SpaceX is targeting tonight, Monday, March 9, at 11:15 p.m. EST for the launch of EchoStar XXV from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on a Falcon 9 booster. This particular booster is making its 14th flight and will carry the satellite to geostationary orbit (GEO) at 110° west longitude. From this vantage point above the Pacific Ocean and off the western coast of Mexico, the satellite will transmit television to North America. The booster is expected to land on the droneship A Shortfall of Gravitas. EchoStar XXV is a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) built by Lanteris Space Systems (formerly Maxar Space Systems), a Palo Alto-based satellite manufacturer. It is designed to send television signals directly to small dishes on homes and businesses across North America. According to Lanteris, the satellite uses multiple independently steerable beams to direct signal capacity where it’s needed most rather than broadcasting evenly across the continent. The satellite is built on the Lanteris 1300 series bus, a platform for GEO satellites that has been in production since 1989 and forms the backbone of more than 95 spacecraft currently on orbit. Its modular design has powered missions ranging from SiriusXM’s digital audio radio satellites to hardware supporting NASA’s Gateway lunar outpost. For Dish, this launch is a long time coming. The company has not had a new broadcast satellite launch since EchoStar XV in 2010 — a 16-year gap during which the rise of streaming services has reshaped the television landscape. Charlie Ergen, Dish chairman, has been direct about why the company is still investing in geostationary infrastructure. “We don’t think that the [direct broadcast satellite] business is going away. It’s still the preferred choice for a lot of Americans in terms of an efficient way to watch TV,” he said, as quoted in a 2023 article from Light Reading. EchoStar XXV is the company’s answer to that conviction — and it won’t be the last. EchoStar has already contracted Lanteris to build EchoStar XXVI, scheduled for delivery in 2028. ## Other missions this week Also **on Monday, March 9,** Firefly Aerospace is targeting 8:50 p.m. EST for the launch of its Alpha rocket from Space Launch Complex 2 West at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The mission, titled “Stairway to Seven,” is the seventh flight of the Alpha vehicle and has faced a series of delays in the lead-up to tonight’s attempt. Alpha is a small-lift launch vehicle capable of delivering up to approximately 2,200 lbs (1,000 kg) to low Earth orbit. This is the final flight for Alpha in its Block 1 configuration. The Block 2 configuration will feature updated batteries and avionics, which Firefly says will improve reliability and expand mission capabilities. With only two fully successful flights over six attempts, the Block 2 upgrades come at a critical moment for Firefly as the company works to stabilize Alpha’s track record. **On Thursday, March 12,** SpaceX will continue its regular Starlink launch cadence with the Starlink Group 10-48 mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 6:00 a.m. EST. The Falcon 9 booster will land on the droneship Just Read the Instructions. **On Friday, March 13,** SpaceX will launch Starlink Group 17-31 from Vandenberg Space Force Base at 6:58 a.m. EST, with the booster targeting a landing on the droneship Of Course I Still Love You in the Pacific Ocean. Closing out the week **on Sunday, March 15,** SpaceX will launch Starlink Group 10-46 from Cape Canaveral at 7:11 a.m. EST. The booster is expected to land on A Shortfall of Gravitas. ## Last week’s recap The first full week of March opened with a SpaceX double-header. On Tuesday, March 4, SpaceX launched Starlink Group 10-40 from Cape Canaveral at 5:52 a.m. EST, with the booster landing on A Shortfall of Gravitas. Later that same evening, Space One attempted the third flight of its KAIROS rocket from Space Port Kii in Kushimoto, Japan, at 9:10 p.m. EST. The mission failed when the vehicle was lost during its second-stage burn. In a press release, Space One confirmed that the flight was suspended “during Step 2 of Mission 4,” adding that the company would “investigate the cause as soon as possible and make the necessary improvements.” On Thursday, March 5, Rocket Lab successfully launched the “Insight At Speed Is A Friend Indeed” mission aboard an Electron rocket from its Māhia Peninsula launch site in New Zealand. The customer and payload for this mission are confidential. The week wrapped up on Sunday, March 8, with SpaceX launching Starlink Group 17-18 from Vandenberg at 7:00 a.m. EST, with the booster landing on Of Course I Still Love You. ## Looking ahead Next week brings a notably busy manifest. SpaceX has three Starlink missions scheduled across both coasts. On Wednesday, March 19, Rocket Lab will attempt to launch StriX-6, an Earth-observation satellite for Japanese company Synspective, from the Māhia Peninsula in New Zealand. Also on March 19, German startup Isar Aerospace will attempt to fly its Spectrum rocket for only the second time, carrying its first payloads — CubeSats from European universities — from Andøya Rocket Range in Norway. And on Saturday, March 22, Roscosmos will launch the Progress MS-33 resupply spacecraft to the International Space Station from Baikonur.

ChatGPT Now Clocking 900 Million Weekly Users It’s official: 900 million people are now flocking to ChatGPT each week for AI-powered writing, answers, thinking and more. Most of those people use the free version of ChatGPT, while about 50 million users access the AI via a paid subscription, according to writer Aisha Malik. Adds Malik: “The new weekly active user figure marks a jump of 100 million users from the 800 million that OpenAI reported in October 2025.” **In other news and analysis in AI writing:** *Meet Your Even Tougher Workplace Competitor: ChatGPT-5.4: OpenAI says its newest AI engine – GPT-5.4 — matches or outperforms many human professionals 83% of the time, according to the maker. The new model is also more accurate and is 18% less likely to generate errors and 33% less likely to come back with false claims, according to OpenAI. GPT-5.4 is currently rolling out as ChatGPT-5.4 and is also available via direct computer API access. *U.S. Military, Government Pivots Away from Anthropic Products: Angry that AI titan Anthropic refused to share full access to its tools for any legal purpose, President Donald Trump has banned use of Anthropic products by the U.S. government. Observes lead writer Kali Hays: “The company had grown concerned in recent months about the government potentially using its AI tools — like Claude — in what it described as mass surveillance and fully autonomous weapons.” Claude and similar Anthropic tools are currently the number one choice among many computer coders. *Hyperlocal Newsletter Firm — Powered by AI — Has a Million Subscribers: Newsletter maker Patch has come up with a new way to hyper-personalize newsletters with AI – even if only one person subscribes. Observes writer Liz Skalka: “Give the site your zip code and it would produce a daily or twice-weekly newsletter customized for your town, for a minimum readership of one subscriber. “The newsletters rely heavily on aggregation, automated event calendars and posts from Nextdoor (a hyperlocal social media network).” *Grammarly Offering ‘Expert Reviews’ of Your Writing – Without Permission From Those Experts: AI proofreading tool Grammarly is now offering free reviews of your writing by prominent virtual academics, authors and similar experts – both living and dead – using AI. Problem is, none of those experts granted Grammarly permission to use their thinking for such a purpose – which has more than a few people ticked. Observes writer Miles Klee: “Instead of producing what looks like a generic critique from a nameless LLM, it lists a number of real academics and authors available to weigh in on your text. To be clear: Those people have nothing to do with this process.” *The More You Chat, The More Errors You Get: New research finds that the more questions you ask in a specific chat, the more likely you’ll encounter errors and hallucinations. Bottom line: Expect chatbots like ChatGPT-5.0 and newer to lose up to 33% accuracy if you engage in multi-message chats. Even worse: Expect older AI engines to lose up to 39% accuracy. *Another AI Tool Promises to Auto-Generate Press Releases: Add ‘Free AI Press Release Generator’ to the growing cadre of tools promising to create press releases for you with AI. Unlike many AI writing tools, this one focuses entirely on press release writing and follows standard press release form and function developed by journalists. *AI Agents May Soon Face Special Microsoft Fee: Microsoft is currently mulling adding a special fee for AI agents that use Microsoft products. Observes writer Richard Speed: “The megacorp is considering a new Microsoft 365 subscription tier, informally dubbed E7, that would bundle Copilot and agent management tools.” The reasoning: “As AI agents function as digital workers, they need identities, email accounts, Teams access, and policy controls – capabilities currently tied to user subscriptions,” Speed adds. *Microsoft ‘Copilot Tasks:’ Redmond Takes Another Shot at AI Agents: Microsoft has rolled out a slightly different AI agent for consumer users of Copilot, designed to take a more active role in getting tasks done. Observes writer Laurent Giret: “Microsoft described the feature as a To-Do list that does itself, done by an AI agent using its own computer and web browser in the background.” Potential uses include creation of draft email replies each morning, general AI writing, online shopping, event planning, and more. *Facebook Parent Meta Out With New AI Shopping Assistant: CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s empire has expanded a bit with a new, experimental AI shopping assistant. Observes writer Mariella Moon: “At the moment, it’s reportedly only showing up on desktop browsers when select users visit Meta AI on the Web.” Users prompting the assistant for shopping tips get back a virtual carousel of product images and pricing — as well as a link to where they can buy the product. The AI is also able to customize suggestions based on gender and location if you share that personal data with Meta. **_Share a Link_** : Please consider sharing a link to https://RobotWritersAI.com from your blog, social media post, publication or emails. This Week, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away: ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Marketing Campaign Keeps On While ‘Starfighter’ Praises Continue Happy Sunday, and welcome to a new edition of “This Week, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away“. There’s a lot going on in _Star Wars_ , yet not that much new to discuss. The marketing campaign for _The Mandalorian and Grogu_ continues its course, while we’re now less than a month away from _Maul: Shadow_ Lord coming out on Disney Plus, and the show continues in the _Star Wars_ animation tradition of starting to get some minor traction one month out. For those looking out, George Lucas will be honored at tonight’s Saturn Awards with the Dr. Donald A. Reed Founder’s Award. Also, the Writers Guild Awards are taking place at the moment, wth _Andor_ Season 2 having a good shot at winning Drama Series. Despite having set it up, there was no live YouTube show on Thursday due to technical difficulties on our end. But fear not, _SWNN Live!_ will return this week, if everything is fixed in time! Our regular Character Spotlight series did not suffer from any difficulties, as Josh was back writing about Vice Admiral Rampart this Friday. Check it out here. Before we get started, a reminder that you can sign up for our Discord server here, where we chat about so many fun things throughout the week. ## Three Things That May Have Flown Casual * _Heated rivalry_ : We’re now less than 75 days away from _The Mandalorian and Grogu_ coming out, and Pedro Pascal, Jeremy Allen White, and others are speaking to _Empire Magazine_ about their time making the movie and how they approached their roles. (We also learned that Pascal will be in the suit for quite a long time throughout the movie.) Meanwhile, Daniel Ings became the latest member of the _Starfighter_ team to praise how the movie turned out and how fun the set was to be at. It’s becoming an unofficial rivalry between the teams working on both movies to hype up their respective projects. * _It’s still happening, I swear!_ : Josh couldn’t have described better this latest piece of news: “In what is becoming an annual check-in at this point, the _Knights of the Old Republic_ remake is still in development, according to the CEO of Saber Interactive Tim Willits.” And yet, “no word on release window”. In other video game news, Pascal Blanché has revealed he will be the studio art director of _The Fate of the Old Republic._ * _Publishing updates_ : We have a review by Josh for _Shadow of Maul #1_ , the comic series that’s supposed to tie into the upcoming animated series, as well as _The Bad Batch: Rogue Agents #2_ (by Colin). Chris Kempshall also announced a new book coming out this fall called _Star Wars: Star Pilots_ , written from the perspective of Wedge Antilles and other pilots during the Galactic Civil War. Finally, Dark Horse announced that _Hyperspace Stories: Mace_ will be coming out on September 1, as well as revealed the official synopsis. * * * ## Quote of the Week > “Yeah, so I guess when he was playing Kylo Ren, there was some voice stuff that he did in the studio, and I guess he just needed something to hold on to. And he invented this thing that changed animation forever.” That was Dave Franco describing how Adam Driver changed voice recording in animation by asking for a bar to hold on to when he’d get too intense recording Kylo Ren dialogue in the _Star Wars_ sequels. ### Runner-up > “Oh and when Ewan let me hold Ahsoka’s Lightsaber. That was definitely a favourite _Star Wars_ moment.” That was a comment left by a YouTube personality known as “A Happy Healthy Human” that is actually a month old by now. This person, who identifies himself as a crew member in _Ahsoka_ Season 2 (and showed crew gear that substantiated this claim), allegedly met Ewan McGregor on the set of the show. But before we run too deep into speculation, I should remind the reader that McGregor lives in the UK (_Ahsoka_ Season 2 filmed in London), is married to one of the show’s main actors (and in fact, we know that Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s role as Hera is expanded in the second season), and is a lifelong friend of another key member of the cast, Hayden Christensen. So it is perfectly reasonable that he would have been on the set at some point. Yet, given how the first season played out, and also because of some online rumors, this might also fuel speculation that he will be donning the Jedi robes again, cameoing as Obi-Wan Kenobi in _Ahsoka_ Season 2. I’m not going there yet, but it’s definitely a possibility. * * * What did you think of the latest edition of “This Week, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away”? Let me know your thoughts and suggestions down below in the comment section. You can also send them, or reach out with any information tips, directly via our Contact page. Have a great week! ##### Miguel Fernandez + posts Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is _The Lord of the Rings,_ but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as movies from Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white. * Miguel Fernandez https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/author/miguel-fernandez __ Adam Driver Came Up With Now-Industry Standard Bar In Sound Booths While Recording Kylo Ren Dialogue * Miguel Fernandez https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/author/miguel-fernandez __ 'The Mandalorian and Grogu': Pedro Pascal and Jon Favreau Agreed on the Only Reason Why Din Would Remove His Helmet * Miguel Fernandez https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/author/miguel-fernandez __ 'Star Wars: Starfighter' -- Daniel Ings Says He Loved the New Ending, Praises Collaboration With Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling * Miguel Fernandez https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/author/miguel-fernandez __ 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' Empire Magazine Cover Revealed

It’s not always sunny in Philadelphia.

The sun will come out tomorrow!

But that’s moon day..

It’s cloudy and that’s confusing me.
