Captured in Toronto at the beginning of August, as thick smoke from northern wildfires polluted the atmosphere. The air pollution on this day registered amongst the worst in the world. It was difficult to breathe, and health officials recommended that outdoor activity be limited for safety reasons. The sun was an eerie orange ball, far past sunrise, and the air thick and hazy. We live in precarious times, as global warming is an undeniable reality.

Rose window of a formerly royal chapel that was modeled after Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. It was founded in the 14th century. The window pictured here is in the flamboyant gothic style. It has a flaming sun at the center, with rays in orange, red, and yellow streaming from it. Most of the rest of the glass is clear, with leaded geometric designs. Other colors of glass (pink, blue, yellow) serve as frames. I do not believe that this is the original gothic glass; the chapel suffered damage several times over the centuries, especially in 1793, during the French Revolution.
