do unwritten poems go
into literary oblivion or is there
some poetic limbo filled with
silent stanzas waiting to be
reborn as fully fledged verse?

In this dark hour
I plunge into
literary oblivion
chase my pretty words,
they have escaped
and I am seething,
uneasy;

When does this
melancholy end?
When will ink
mean something
again?

I plunge into the river,
come out dry

“Yeah!” Antin added. “Or else they will lead us to literal oblivion!”
Zhe’ra turned to look at her great grandson. “Bill, when you and Ar’Thyl were underground, you said you encountered someone there that helped you?” Bill nodded. She turned to Antin. “And when I read your retelling of your time in Boulder – you, and Nyx – a village I recall hearing of in my youth, by the way – you said some kind of serpent creature tried to help you? Could they be the same creatures?”
Bill shook his head. “The ones I thought I saw looked like people, but something about them seemed different,”
And I was asleep, strangely so, unaware of anything happening. But someone had brought sustenance to my Aludim in the night. Ar’Thyl sent a memory to Zhe’ra and Georgios, of them waking up to find a plate of sandwiches.
Tannamir bent to meet their eyes. Now dear Aludim, lest their family think we are hoarding their kin, we should take a break to rest before the feast tonight.
“Feast?” Bill asked.
“Yes, good idea Tannamir!” Georgios said. “To celebrate your return to us, and that your mother had agreed to become our resident medical practitioner! We’ve invited Rebecca and Toby to join us in the tower dining area in an hour. Dofhâwr is upstairs setting up as we speak.”
Me and Nyx will do a patrol around the island. Ar’Thyl said. Bill got the impression his beloved Aludim wanted him to spend time alone with Antin…
“Let’s hope you disappearing will be the worst thing this summer.” Antin said. “Though I suppose something will surpass it before the war is done.”
Bill followed Antin out of the main chamber “I know, right! But I’m not sure what’s worse – facing another seething Dreth – or facing another sourly military officer.”
“No, let's not repeat of that either!” Antin flapped down into one of the couches in the outer hallway.
Bill sat down next to him, “I fear we will, though. Face both. I hope the others return before the ambassadors start showing up though.”

#Uneasy is #literary_oblivion;
for it implies a remembrance
of being read- #surpassing

Resources? I see a wannabe dynasty will try to hoard.

But courses? well, it seems reality has plenty so welcome aboard..

..or welcome to class; homework due, the final submission?

It's rejected, I know that brick wall wasn't the mission.

“Not to be the token goose,” Antin said. “But isn’t that like describing the Dreth? Every time we’ve fought them, they seem to come back even more conniving.”
Georgios sighed, “there seems truth to both statements. Humanity has grown back every time we’ve been beaten back, but the Dreth have survived literal hell, and grown stronger for it.”
“Well, this won’t be humanity’s final submission. Even in my time we knew time moves in ages that come and pass, and come again. Not literally, of course, but our knowledge and our connection to Light and Darkness grow and wanes. We learn, we forget, and relearn again.” Zhe’ra paused to look at the younglings. “And let me assure you, no matter how dreary it looks, there will always be another chance.”
After a brief silence, Bill asked the obvious question: “So how can we protect the planet from itself?”
Georgios looked as lost as Bill and Antin, but after a glance at his Aludim he continued. “What Zhe’ra says rings true. But she also revealed the answer, maybe without knowing it. We need to enlighten people, bring the Light back into each one willing to let it speak to them.”
“That sounds awfully like a religion,” Antin said. “Where I’m from religions bring strife and despair while preaching the truth of a god.”
“The Light isn’t a god. It just is.” Georgios regaled. “Equal and opposite to Darkness it is a force of all that is growth, creation, and progress. By connecting to a thinking being – one who has a soul – something remarkable happens. A kind of cosmic consciousness emerges. Not a being of its own, but an exchange between the Light and the soul.”
He looked at the three of them.
“In my time we called it the creator and the dark one, but I see those are just names for the same thing. The creator wasn’t a god. It didn’t dictate or demand. It just was the start and upkeeps of reality. A reality the dark one wanted to destroy.”

“The world has changed since you were young, that’s for sure. Maybe I could recommend some books or websites to help you to catch up on?” Bill said, thinking the best thing they could be doing was to learn more about the different countries around the area. He knew Brazil was close, and Venezuela and Cuba, and Mexico, but he didn’t really know much about them.
“Yeah, we don’t fight with swords anymore,” Antin chimed in.
“I have been reading about the broad strokes of history,” Tannamir said. “The language is so different from when I was young. But the computers here can show me documents in my native language, which is wonderful.”
Antin sighed. “Well, the world seems to consist of an absurd collective of leaders – playing dice with us regular folk.”
“We’re not exactly regular folk anymore Antin.” Bill looked up where Ar’Thyl and Nyx were intently watching them,
“No, I know. But unjust, patronizing leaders upset me, like that ship. They clearly thought they knew the truth. And used weapons to try to put us down.”
Nyx hrmph’d. Aludim, we were great! We stopped the Shadow from influencing those people. You and Bill did that.
You both proved yourself as capable of being true leaders in the future. Ar’Thyl added.
Bill looked up. “I find it suspicious that you two are ganging up on us!”

We are not, Aludim! Ar’Thyl feigned innocence. We just think you two think too little of yourselves.
And are slow. Nyx added, before he turned from view.
“Oh, the warmth from our Aludims!” Antin said, looking at Nyx where he cowered behind Ar’Thyl. “What do you mean slow?”
Tannamir watched the whole scene thoughtfully, but he slapped his stick three times on the floor. “We were here to discuss the attack. I think we’ve gotten out of task.”
“Sorry, councillor.” Bill said. Nyx and Ar’Thyl straightened and Antin came up to the front with Bill again.
“Ar’Thyl shared images of the event with us. Except for what I just witnessed here in this chamber, I agree with your Aludims assessment. You two have proved yourself capable of greatness, on par with the other young Aludim.” He looked up as Zhe’ra and Castor came in.

Bill got up, intending to go find Antin and talk to the council. Before he turned the corner though, his mother called after him.
“I hope you’ll not be reckless and engage in any fights my precious. Remember, I want you happy and safe.”
“I’ll try, ma, but you know – the world is changing fast.”
“It sure is. Well, give my best to Antin.”
Bill blushed. “I will. Bye ma!”
After exiting her rooms, he went to the elevator chamber and pressed the icon of the parliament tower entryway. He felt the slight tingle of Light as it passed through him and by the next heartbeat the doors opened and he could step out into the parliament foyer.
Antin was there, waiting. “I haven’t dared go in. Ar’Thyl told Nyx to tell me to wait for you,,, Tannamir is muttering to himself about procedures and wayward governments. I don’t think he’s used to our world yet.”
Bill laughed. “He is from another time. I don’t think there were guns in Wales in his day. Oh, mom says hi.”
“Oh? Anything new?”
“She’s staying in Al’Edos. I’m so relieved. She’s seemed overworked ever since dad died. I hope she can relax a bit here.”
They entered the council chamber and the assembled Edroth all turned to look at them. Bill could feel Ar’Thyl entering at the same time as him. So, you didn’t go tell on us? He laughed.
We are Aludim. We work together. Ar’Thyls reply was short and concise.
“Well, there our saviors are!” Tannamir beamed when he saw them. “The attacks stopped a while ago; I suspect that was your doing?”
“We talked to their immediate superiors and managed to turn their view. They’ll be sending an envoy once they find someone suitable,”
“That’s good. The other young Aludim left a while back after Nick had a vision. I don’t know when they’ll be back. So, it’s just the Edroth, Georgios and us left to deal with this.”
Bill looked around but couldn’t see his ancestor. “And Zhe’ra, surely. And my mom will help in the medical centre if needed.”

It was a high-stakes tournament. The rules were similar to strip poker, but instead of shedding clothes, they removed body parts: a pinky, a toenail, once an eye. There was plenty of uncertainty in the game. This time, the payout was worth losing an arm over.
