Heute dann der zweite Tag #Jugendforscht #Lötworkshop in der #fau Nürnberg. Es waren echt tolle Menschen und tolle Betreuer 😍. Mega viele Ideen was man noch zum Leuchten bringen könnte!

A hand holding a bright yellow 3D-printed case with a blocky/futurish/cyberpunkish design. In the center is a small blue display which reads HELTEC Automation. There is an inset knurled gray knob on the top right, a protruding antenna on the top left, and inset buttons on the bottom. The knob and buttons are gray. There is a USB charging cable protruding from the bottom of the device.
Woo, 3D printing is working well enough to print project cases now :D
Wohoo! This was a lot of work and testing, and it's finally done (including a sloth and a slow loris version): A robot that uses only simple electronics, conductive tape and cardboard: https://youtu.be/GCNsM0IdK04

a screencap from The Matrix (1999), where Morpheus holds out his hands with a red pill and blue pill. instead in his hands are the logos of Digi-Key Electronics (red) and Mouser Electronics (blue).

That is an interesting game idea. A bit to much plastic for my taste. Maybe I should make a paper circuit version 🤔

A simple pipe made from a paper cylinder and a paper pipe. Inside the cylinder are two LEDs covered by lose cotton creating the illusion of glow and smoke.
Me tressid in a brown coat and a brown hat using the paper pipe. The paper pipe is made from a paper cylinder and a paper pipe. Inside the cylinder are two LEDs covered by lose cotton creating the illusion of glow and smoke
For a costume party I needed a cool pipe. It turned out quite well. Guess who I am ;)
For the glow and smoke I used a red and a yellow LED, and some loose cotton. I am amazed how well this trick turned out.

My new video is online! A short introduction on how to create light-up jellyfish.
I do provide materials for teachers and parents who want to use this for education: https://youtu.be/bs5QjT5yZNU

A low poly angler fish made from paper. The angle is light by an color-changing LED (light blue). The background is illuminated by a red lamp giving the picture a red-blu contrast.
while editing my website to introduce my new paper circuit project (Illuminated Jellyfish) I came across this older project of mine. It still amazes me. Sadly I do not have the pepakura designer files anymore but I will share the print templates soon.

I’m working on a little DIY tutorial for these illuminated jellyfish. It’s a bit crafty making them, but the electronics are super simple.

I want to learn about this pattern where you write to a video memory area and then that gets processed separately and displayed on a monitor or VGA or what not. Maybe even something like what the #GameBoy does where tile maps and blit is done separately based on what you wrote to the video […]
There's a lot more noise than signal these days.
Where do the makers and the hackers look for interesting news / inspiration? My RSS feeds dried up a long time ago.

A green PCB with a bunch of footprints for keyboard switches and a single switch inserted in the corner
I got the pcb for the toy!
And it turns out I accidentally used SMD footprints for the diodes. I guess I have to get the right diodes now... At least they're pretty cheap.
Just make sure to get the right type, Marc. And then you can learn to solder surface mount components.

I need a 18 pin I2C multiplexer but I can't buy one right now. How hard would it be to fake one with an #Arduino Nano? Is there an I2C library I can use to encode and communicate?

I'm looking for recommendations for where to get a PCB made for a prototype. I'm in the US, and on a budget
#diy_electronics
So I designed the keyboard layout and generated a PCB using https://keyboard-tools.xyz/
Now I need to add the microcontroller. What I'd like to do is use one of the Arduino Nano boards I have lying around, but later I might want to make my own microcontroller board that I'll program with ISP […]
On top of a messy table is a plastic container full of keyboard switches with one switch resting on the lid, plus a double pack of Raspberry Pi Pico boards. There's a breadboard and assorted junk in the background

Is there such a thing as an affordable ~7" (20mm) wide monochrome LCD display module? I suppose I can do color instead

My Pi cluster being cooled using a 120mm PC case fan.
New blog post!
In which I show how I am powering a typical 120mm PC case fan from a USB port to quietly cool my Raspberry Pi cluster.
