It may be a dead EEPROM (apparently, a WinBond 25Q32JVSIQ chip), which is tempting to try replacing. Everything else on the board seems to still work...
This is really handy. In particular, the quick pick option is great when you don't actually know the name of the connector, but know what it looks like.

Been working on this in my free time for something like 6 weeks now. When I started I only knew “transistors are sorta like switches”

All 4 data lines are wired and working. The switches control each bit, and the big red button toggles between red and green. LEDs are bright, crisp, and exactly how I hoped! Next up is flashing.
