Another slow night in the moth trap. Winter is definitely trying to return. Just a solo Clouded Drag making an appearance.

A small Tupperware half filled with strawberry slices, with moths I've captured for the week since it's so cold all feasting. There's a rather active brown shaded grey geometer moth, a shy Roland's sallow moth, and 3 different common oak moths (only one is actually eating like a normal person)

Oct 2025 I identified some Common Reed mines containig Cosmopterix scribalella larvae at #RSPBFowlmere - I kept a single mine in a jar, and today an adult eclosed - at the moment I am assuming the same species, although I will get it checked #teammoth #cambsmoths

Fragile Dagger moth

Fragile Dagger moth

I'm called Fragile Dagger moth, but don't worry! I'm not so fragile that I'll break, I'm just sensitive to your needs. I might be sharp in wit, but I won't poke you anymore now that I've shed my stinging larval hairs. Why not give me a try?

My optimism wasn’t really justified 😆but I am not complaining as I did get moths: 4/28. It’s interesting how different the Small Quakers all look in terms of colouring. Also Common Quakers, Clouded Drabs & Hebrew Characters & this interesting looking bycatch obs say Psectrotanypus Varius #teammoth

How it feels trying to make the most of the sunshine before it disappears again 💨

Early spring blooms provided a much-needed energy boost for this Humming-bird Hawk-moth in Lincolnshire during the warm weather earlier this month.

This rather dapper moth is the Liquorice Piercer (Grapholita pallifrontana), our Species of the Month. ✨

The Liquorice Piercer is so named because its caterpillars pierce Wild Liquorice seed pods.

#teammoth Frost on the moth sheet by 23:00, but 4 Clouded Drab, 2 Hebrew Characters, 2 Common Quakers and a Small Quaker made it to the trap. Warming up now - high hopes for tonight!

Couldn't get the trap out until after 9, but don't get much turning up early at this time of year, so doubt it would've made much of a difference to a final tally of 5 of 2 on a cool, breezy night

I went for a Friday night out in Tarifa and this was my dusk view on my walk after the sun had set! And those specks of dirt on my photo in the sky are not dirt, but are actually Black Kites migrating north across the Straits - even this late in the evening. I estimated there were about 50 per minute flying through - so if my maths is right then that is 3,000 per hour!? So, a good movement on a very calm and still evening - ideal for migration. - moth-trapping at CIMA, Tarifa, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 13th of March 2026.

Was that a Box-tree moth at the window in Episode 2 of “The Other Miss Bennett” on BBC1 just now? Pretty sure they’re a recently introduced species not present in those days?
