My first #gardening starts have been planted! Yay #spring ! A few herbs for now. More to follow. My husband is a smoker and wants to grow his own tobacco. The green house will house tobacco, peppers and herbs. Our garden plot is tiny. Still figuring that out. #zone7 #garden #gardening #spring
I have learned that my birthday month (February) is a great month for seed starting in zone 7! I was gifted a mini seed kit, so I planted some herbs. Tomorrow I start the rest of the greenhouse and garden plot! #gardening #zone7 #greenhousegardening
How can I attract owls? I have to be careful - chickens - but obviously they don't all eat chicken. I'm in Utah, #Zone7. It's a sprawling "city" that's really a lot of suburbia with a few main roads for shops and restaurants. #Birds #BirdWatching #birding #Birdsky
The east side of my front yard covered in snow. Two sets of frost cloths are barely visible.
The west side, also covered, with the frost cloth struggling. The snow comes up to almost the top of the raised beds it's covering.
It's the last half of February, it's been warm all winter long, so of course we're getting so much snow that I can't keep up with knocking it off my frost cloths. 😭😭😭 #gardensky #gardener #zone7 #ClimateChange
Looking towards the east long ways from the end of what will be my new Garden bed. There are green posts we drove a foot into the ground yesterday to start the fencing with a small trellis halfway built by me for my peas. The bed will be 10 ft by 35 ft.
An angle of the whole bed. As in the previous photo, plenty of chickens are trying to help me out with prepping the bed and my dog is doing a great job protecting them from the nocturnal raccoon my neighbor spotted two nights ago. Lol
We'll be watching the SB, for the 1st time in 5 yrs, later. But 1st! Mr. SBW and I got a 🪵 chipper finally, so we're making mulch today!! Also here is a pic of the progress on the new garden. It is on the SW side of my yard and will be for 3 types 🥔🥔🥔, 2 types 🌽🌽, squash, and 🫛🫛. #gardensky #zone7

A white azalea blossom with raindrops- blooming in November
After a recent rain -this is an azalea blooming in the wrong season! #bloomscrolling #climatechange #nature #zone7
A Scarlet Snapdragon plant with leaves that have turned lime green. It's the only one in the bed that has done that.
My other snapdragons are all that are left alive in this particular bed but they are blossoms are just brilliant in tones of pinks and reds.
A new red rose blossom. There are actually quite a lot of roses still blooming but I can only post four photos at a time.
My bird-given sunflowers in my front bed with two of them now blooming and two more with big fat heads getting ready to pop.
Things are still blooming. In mid November. This is nuts.

We did a perennial garden installation this week. Fall is the perfect time for dividing and planting perennials, the rain insures good root development for better performance in its first year. Get out there and get gardening! 👨🌾🌿🌾 #gardening #perennial #gardendesign #fallplanting #northeast #zone7

So we may have a couple of peppers.....That I mysteriously discovered two days later were not in fact green peppers. I have no idea what we planted. It's been a lot of fun watching them ripen into random colors 😂 #Gardening #Outdoors #Zone7 #KSLiving
This square photo shows a close-up of a Klip Dagga flower blooming. The plant is 8 feet tall but still growing. The flower has dozens of long, narrow, orange petals that grow horizontally around the top of a large, spiny, spherical, green base approximately the size of a ping pong ball. Another stem grows upward through the center of the flower with another spiny base forming on it. Eventually, nature willing, there will be several blooms stacked on top of each other with a few inches of stem between each. The background of the photo shows sour cherry tree leaves. So happy my Klip Dagga is blooming. The plants are 8 feet tall and still growing. The backdrop is my neighbor's sour cherry tree.

And the best part is that it's cold-hardy in U.S. grow zones down to 3! Unlike its tropical relative with larger, sweeter fruit and fuzzy skin, kiwi berries can be eaten whole🥝 Their exact taste does depend on the variety, but I find them to be a bit more tart

Last full day of astronomical summer. Pollinators still going strong in my garden. Goldenrod (not sure what variety) is a keystone species.

Beans
I haven’t been here much lately due to building a shed. It was hot and annoying.
Here is the surest sign of fall - there are piles of beans all over my office.

This gorgeous praying mantis lives in our herb garden. They seem to gravitate towards us; this one arrived here by hitching a ride on my unsuspecting husband's shirt.

This square photo is a closeup of Red Campion (Silene dioica) blooming in my garden. Despite the name the flowers are not red, they are pink. Each of the small blooms has 10 petals and a pale green center rimmed in white. There is a tiny ant on one of the petals. The background of the photo is filled with green leaves.
