Due to my scoliosis I have rods in my back, so I thought it was perfect for #DisabilityPrideMonth (even though it took me longer than a month). So now I have a cool jacket showing how cool my steampunk bones are.

feminist Reminder for #DisabilityPrideMonth: People with invisible disabilities or illnesses are not ‘lying’ or ‘looking for attention.’ It’s time to end the stigma around invisible illness 🎨 and 💬 by @ liberaljane

Yup. Passion is mistaken for anger. And yes, this is my face it’s not angry. This is how I look. I am autistic, leave me alone. Don’t tell me to smile. I don’t owe you anything.

Disability Access Toolkit for Communities | Student Christian Movement The Church has often struggled with disability inclusion, thinking only of access needs as an afterthought, only for specific disabilities or, sometimes, not at all. Because of this, many disabled…

Whilst the toolkit is designed with SCM communities in mind, it's also helpful for groups in any setting, including Church meetings and small groups 🫶

Alt Text: Sometimes a disability is an all-or-nothing, you can either do an activity or you can't. But often it's much more complicated than that. Some disabilities come in waves, some in acute attacks. Some can technically do an activity, but it's gonna cost them later with pain or worsening of symptoms.

If someone can do an activity one day, but tell you they can't the next day, believe them. If they're a loved one, you can inquire as to why in order to understand them better. If you don't know the person well, the best thing to do is to say "ok" and leave it at that.

Us disabled people have to constantly explain ourselves, defend ourselves, handle being accursed of lying or exaggerating. We feel like we're constantly in front of a judge, having to prove our very being.

Having someone go "Sure, no problem" when we say we can't do something, will make a disabled person immensely grateful.

This is something I wish "abled" people would understand.

a picture of a man with the words my tummy hurts but i 'm being really brave about it ALT: a picture of a man with the words my tummy hurts but i 'm being really brave about it

I think the #immunosuppressants are messing with my guts. I have #gastroparesis, among other issues. Very tender tummy. I keep getting nauseated easily. I have only puked once, and it was also probably me dealing with #MCAS flares.

#DisabilityPrideMonth may be over, but I dont stop being #disabled.

My final topic for queer book recommendations for the disability pride month 2025 (July)!

Those 9 books are all a little bit different around the topic how people deal with their trauma - very interesting to read.

Nach dem #DisabilityPrideMonth folgt im August traditionell der #SMAAwarenessMonth. Ihr, als meine treuen Followys, wisst natürlich, was SMA ist. Aber wissen das auch eure Freund*innen oder Followys?

As #DisabilityPrideMonth comes to an end, you probably didn’t notice. Don’t think I saw a single shop promoting it and very few social media accounts outside the disabled community post about it.

Some days I've had a headache all day and only enough energy to make cups of tea. When a well meaning friend suggested I tried to force myself to go out and about to help my mental health; I explained that this would be somewhere between impossible and damaging #DisabilityPrideMonth #SpoonieAuthChat

A bust of Daphne looking at the viewer and smiling, facing right in 3/4 view. She is a young white woman with long wavy brown hair, brown eyes with the left eye having down-and-outwards-pointing strabismus and a droopy lid, and a large facial scar. The collar of her black shirt is visible.

Finally, before #DisabilityPrideMonth ends… okay, this is cheating because I didn’t just draw it, but this older pic of Daphne is *chef’s kiss*.

She has oculomotor nerve palsy & facial scarring, and is a major character in The Claws of the Ounce (coming out 04/12/25)!

On this final day of #DisabilityPrideMonth, MIRC has good news to share! 🎉
Last week a judge ordered the Trump administration to reinstate federal funding for legal representation for people deemed mentally incompetent to represent themselves in immigration court.

Disability pride month is almost over, please, do not forget about us after July. Disabled people are currently fighting for our rights, and many disabled people are dying because of the cuts to medicaid and medicare. Please, do not forget about us. #disabilitypridemonth #disabled
