And in the 1910-1915 electoral registers, house names used for a while – after residents were compelled to use house names or numbers from 1909 – but which were then abandoned in favour of numbers. I may have to follow up my “By the numbers” #OnePlaceStudy blog post with a Part 3! #OnePlaceWednesday
Head still spinning at all the new info in these electoral registers and possible further research. Absent voters lists may shed light on #WW1 service of some Waters Upton men. So many names of short-term between-census residents not in my #OnePlaceStudy 'tree' to follow up. 1/2 #OnePlaceWednesday
Note that although the Surname Society post says to book tickets on their website, I could not find anything relating to the conference there. I did however find an Eventbrite page for the event, so I have linked to that. #OnePlaceWednesday

The Surname Society’s 2026 AGM & Conference looks likely to be of interest to researchers of #OnePlaceStudies as well as #SurnameStudies! The theme this year is Poverty, with talks on Poor Law archives, workhouses, Victorian social history and British Home Children research. #OnePlaceWednesday
An idea I picked up from another One-Placer a while back. Much needed on a Wordpress site, where it’s easy to see the latest posts but not the latest pages (I have many more pages that posts—144 now, which is a lot of transcribed records!). And yes, a great way to track progress! #OnePlaceWednesday
#OnePlaceWednesday spent writing about C19 technological disruption (railways) while battling C21 technological disruption (printers) - both needed intervention. Had a stand-off with an HP Envy and pulled its miserable & begrudging plug out. Sorted. 🚂 #Licentiate #Thesis
Woohoo! Where there’s a will, there’s a way! #OnePlaceWednesday
I am planning on doing places my ancestors lived for my A-Z challenge, including possibly Marrick which is a OPS that I haven't registered yet.
#OnePlaceWednesday
It would though be a great way to get material relating to the school and your #OnePlaceStudy online, for those with an interest in Sudbourne who are not Society members and so would not see the Destinations article! #OnePlaceWednesday

This talk was in-person only, but the handouts are available for download. (USA land records from 19th & 20th C)

I did draw up a list of topics I could write about using #Sudbourne school as my topic, but I think that’s a bit too specific! People might quickly lose interest 😵💫 especially as I’ve written an article on it for the next issue of Destinations #OnePlaceWednesday
A map with areas marked with different coloured boundaries
I’d previously ordered a will which referred to coloured boundaries in an included map. Iron Mountain said they couldn’t provide a colour copy 🙄 but I noticed that the wills I was ordering just before the price hike were in colour so I re-ordered the will - & the map’s in colour!
#OnePlaceWednesday
I’m thinking about it! I’d planned to do it, but haven’t decided on a theme. I thought I might do my #OneNameStudy as I’m helping organise the conference, but spend more time on my #OnePlaceStudies…
#OnePlaceWednesday
I like your idea of having a ‘latest updates’ section, it’s great to see how much progress you’ve made #OnePlaceWednesday
It’s been a slog, but I’m finally up-to-date with downloading all my wills which are available for download! 🥳 I am still waiting for 7, plus another 4/5 where the documents ‘should’ be there but the download links aren’t working 🙄
#OnePlaceWednesday
The annual #AToZChallenge for bloggers takes place next month. Is anyone planning to include #OnePlaceStudies in their A to Z blog posts, or even make their OPS the main theme for their posts this year? Let us know on this #OnePlaceWednesday!

My #OnePlaceWednesday update. Still waiting for the last 6 of the wills ordered last year for 2 of my #OnePlaceStudies (3 each for Fawsley & Waters Upton). Following Ancestry’s addition of #Shropshire electoral registers I’ve been busy transcribing, and adding new pages to my Waters Upton website.

#RootsTech 2026 is over, but recorded presentations are still available. Although there were no presentations this year specifically about #OnePlaceStudies, there were several talks of interest to OPS folk. Which of those you watched would you recommend to your fellow One-Placers? #OnePlaceWednesday

Great Ellingham One-Place Study. Image: Photo looking along a village street on a sunny, blue-skied day. On the left is a two-storey, four-bay cottage with white walls and a tiled roof, with further cottages and their gardens further along that side of the street. On the right, part of another building with white walls can be seen in the foreground, with the spire-topped tower of the village church a little further long the street, partially hidden by a couple of trees. This month Heather Etteridge has added two posts to her Great Ellingham #OnePlaceStudy website, both relating to Brick Kiln Farm. Check out Heather’s March 2026 blog posts on this #OnePlaceWednesday!
I really enjoyed Gay Evans’s webinar about Parwich last night. Several fascinating characters & some great analysis too. It’s really interesting to hear about other people’s #OnePlaceStudies! Love the story about the man who advertised for a wife & the letters he left

A touch of Winter, 3 years and a day ago in my local #OnePlaceStudy, to kick off #OnePlaceWednesday. Use the hashtag to share posts, at any time today, relating to #OnePlaceStudies – the result of a magical mix of #FamilyHistory & #LocalHistory! News, views, questions, pics and chat are all welcome.

You’d think that having visited my #OnePlaceStudy of #Sudbourne the week before last, & spending 2 days in the archives, that I’d have loads to share. But I’ve made so many discoveries that it’s taking me a while to sort all my photos out & analyse the content!
#OnePlaceWednesday
I’m hoping that shoes can pass as clothes for the purposes of this prompt 🤞🏻 There seems to be a high proportion of shoemakers in my #OnePlaceStudy. I might look at neighbouring villages for comparison #OnePlaceWednesday

Consider everyday clothes and Sunday best, workwear and uniforms, what was worn by those attending weddings or society events—and how fashions changed. #OnePlaceWednesday
Kings Norton Green One-Place Study. Image: Photo of The Green at Kings Norton - a grassy area with several trees - and buildings and many parked cars beyond. Karen Averby @karenaverby.bsky.social has registered her Kings Norton Green One-Place Study! Researching the Medieval & other buildings here—which reflect the social, economic and architectural history of The Green—will hopefully reveal stories of the people associated with them. #OnePlaceWednesday
