TIL #OpenWebUI always makes a call out to @huggingface on startup unless you set `export OFFLINE_MODE=true`. (Yes, I have paranoid firewall rules. It took me a while to figure out why it wouldn't start.)
Lightbulb moment this week: my homelab’s stable and I’ve got a ChatGPT API key… so I installed Open WebUI.
Now I’m testing going API-only. For how I use it, GPT-5 mini/nano is plenty and pay-as-you-go should be cheaper.

Also, #OpenWebUI seems to assume the models will be on the same server, and installs a load of crap you don't *really* need if you're separating out the web UI on to a separate machine from the GPUs...
