Geology of Rimae Bode region as priority site candidate for China’s first crewed lunar mission - Nature Astronomy Orbital mapping of the Rimae Bode region, a priority candidate for China’s crewed lunar landing, identifies four terrains and landing sites that sample diverse volcanic and impact materials to probe the lunar surface and interior evolution.

Observations of the Rimae Bode region on the Moon reveal five distinct types of terrain and identify several potential landing sites for China’s first crewed mission, according to research published in @natastron.nature.com: spklr.io/63321EGFW7

The Moon Is ALIVE: China’s Shocking Discovery That Rewrites Space History 🌕 The Moon Isn’t Dead—It’s Breathing (and We Have Proof) Think the Moon is just a cold, stagnant fossil floating in the void? Think again. For decades, we were taught that our lunar neighbor was a dry, geologically deceased rock. But recent breakthroughs from China’s Chang’e lunar missions have just shredded the textbooks, revealing a lunar surface that is far more 'alive' and chemically complex than anyone dared to imagine. Buckle up, because the lunar landscape just got a lot more crowded. In this episode, we dive into the fundamental rewrite of lunar geology that is turning the scientific world upside down. We explore how the Moon functions as a sophisticated "chemical factory," holding the secrets to our future as a multi-planetary species. This isn't just space exploration; it's a total paradigm shift. 🚀 Why everything you knew about the Moon is WRONG: - The 1-Billion-Year Secret: New data proves volcanic activity persisted on the Moon for a billion years longer than previously thought—even on the rugged and mysterious lunar far side. - Water in the Sun: Forget the dark craters; stable hydrated minerals and dynamic water cycles are trapped inside microscopic water-bearing glass beads across sunlit regions. - Natural Graphene Found: The shocking discovery of natural graphene and helium-3 suggests a volcanic history far more intricate and resource-rich than "just a rock." - Atmospheric Interaction: Discover how the Moon is constantly processing solar winds to create essential building blocks for life. 🌑 From Scientific Curiosity to Cosmic Real Estate This isn't just about rocks and dust. This is about planetary evolution and the survival of the human race. By identifying local sources for fuel, water, and building materials, these missions have laid the essential groundwork for permanent lunar bases. The Moon is no longer just a distant object of study; it is a resource-rich frontier ready for industry and long-term human habitation. Is the Moon the key to the stars, or are we just scratching the surface of a much larger galactic mystery? We’re breaking down the controversy, the chemistry, and the generative engine optimization of our future in space. ✨ Join the Movement! If you're ready to look at the night sky differently, hit that subscribe button, leave a 5-star review, and share this episode with someone who still thinks the Moon is a fossil. Jupiter Is Smaller and Flatter Than Previously Thought Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system and has proudly boasted about this since time immemorial, with its scientific confirmation occurring by Galileo Galilei in 1610. It was later found that Jupiter has a bulging equator caused by its rapid rotation, turbulent atmosphere, and complex interior mechanisms despite its massive size, and scientists have even measured its “waistline” down to a tenth of a kilometer. Now, imagine being the largest planet in the solar system and you’re told you’re not as big as you thought. Where probably most humans would be thrilled to find this out, how do you respond if you’re Jupiter?

JWST Digs Into the Uranian Ionosphere Uranus is a planet that seems to roll around on its side as it orbits the Sun. That's because it's tipped over, with an axial tilt of 97.8 degrees. That weird tilt gave the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) a chance to probe the ionosphere using the Near Infrared Spectrometer (NIRSpec) instrument. An international team of astronomers used the data to map the vertical structure of that region and detect faint auroral displays.

Curiosity Take Its Closest Look Yet At Martian Spiderwebs When MSL Curiosity was sent to Gale Crater, one of its goals was to study boxwork ridge features on Mt. Sharp. The rover has gathered its fourth sample from the rocks, and results are on their way. Previous samples showed tantalizing evidence in favour of ancient life on Mars. But we're still waiting for the extraordinary evidence required to conclude that Mars was once inhabited.

What Causes Those Snowmen in Space? Astronomers have long debated why so many icy objects in the outer solar system look like snowmen. Michigan State University researchers now have evidence of the surprisingly simple process that could be responsible for their creation. Jackson Barnes, an MSU graduate student, has created the first simulation that reproduces the two-lobed shape naturally with gravitational collapse. His work is published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

A "Cosmic Positioning System" in the Outer Solar System There have been plenty of attempts to resolve the “Hubble Tension” in cosmology. This feature describes how one of the most important variables in cosmology, the expansion of the universe, takes on different values depending on how you measure it. A new NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Phase I report on the Cosmic Positioning System (CPS) details another potential solution to it - this one involving a network of five far-flung satellites spread throughout the solar system.

Super-Jupiters Challenge Planet Size Limits Our solar system is home to a wide diversity of planetary bodies, boasting eight planets, five officially recognized dwarf planets, and almost 1,000 confirmed moons. The eight planets consist of the four rocky (terrestrial) planets of the inner solar system and the four gas giant planets of the outer solar system. The largest planet in our solar system is Jupiter, measuring a radius and mass of 11 and 318 times of Earth, respectively. However, the discovery of exoplanets quickly altered our understanding of planetary sizes, as several have been discovered to have masses and radii several times that of Jupiter. So, how big can planet get, and are there limits to their sizes?

Sampling Earthly Geysers For Insights Into The Icy Ocean Moons One way of studying and understanding distant, hard-to-reach locations elsewhere in the Solar System is to find analogues of them here on Earth. For example, deserts and lava fields are often used to understand aspects of the Martian surface. In new research, scientists collected samples from natural geysers in the Utah desert to try to understand the Solar System's icy ocean moons.
