These bite sized baked goods are definitely not cookies, nor are they Mexican. Just like Emilia Pérez is not a musical, nor Mexican. Instead, they are an inch in diameter, and have a cute little bump in the middle so the peak of the “cookie” is about an inch high. They are a luscious looking light brown with powdered sugar and cinnamon on top. The photo itself is at an awkward angle with poor lighting, similar to the cinematographical style of Emilia Peréz that tried so hard to have interesting shots but failed most of the time. In the photo here, there are 15 of these little nuggets, but only one looks like it’s ready for its close up, just like how only one of the people had any skill in acting and that was Zoe Saldana, who, despite the poor direction, deserves an Oscar for holding the movie together, much like the single cup of flour did for these desserts. Even though they look enticing, they really don’t taste good and probably shouldn’t be eaten. Much like Emilia Peréz shouldn’t be watched.

Tawny Frogmouth on a street sign out front of my place. Late at night after I took my dogs out to pee. I went to bring my cat in, she was staring up at the sign, I was shocked to see the Tawny staring right back at her! I’ve never seen one this close to my house! It let me get close enough for this photo before flying silently to a tree across the street. Don’t worry, my cat is rarely outside. And they are about the same size. They seemed interested in each other without a predator-prey dynamic. It was quite a sight!

They’ve been mixing it up a bit more and not huddled us as much. The parents are often on different branches and the young one is usually with what I assume is the mother but yesterday it was on the branch of another nearby tree. It’s becoming more independent and soon will leave to find its own mate.

Youngin is getting more independent and may not stay with its parents much longer. This is one of two sets of tawny families I see on my walks. Seeing six in one day is a treat and likely a rare sight for much longer when the youngin leaves to find a mate to make their own family.

Two Tawny Frogmouths on different branches of what I think is a Messmate Eucalyptus. They are usually seen in the stringy bark gums. Both looking up, beaks skyward. The youngin was on a different tree nearby on its own. The nest was in another tree on the other side of the fence and the male (sometimes two) would hang out here while mother tawny was laying and the hatchling was little and fluffy. Now that it’s older I can’t tell them apart and they’ve moved to this tree a bit more consistently. Harder to see but I’ve managed to spot them and occasionally will spot all three.

Had my third 6 Tawny day yesterday, 7 including the one out front of my house late at night. Likely one of the two local families I see regularly. Such remarkable creatures!
