Serrated polyps may progress to cancer more rapidly than adenomas, underscoring the need for differentiated surveillance. The findings support the importance of regular colonoscopies for early detection and removal of polyps, particularly for those over 45 or with family history. In Australia, where bowel cancer is a leading cause of cancer deaths, these results highlight the value of programs like the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program and tailored follow-up schedules to mitigate risks from concurrent cancer pathways.
